1) Scholes loses possession to Malbranque in the centre of the field. Saha is allowed some space.

2) Malbranque plays a quick through ball to Saha making the run forward.

3) Saha moves in on goal and drifts to the right to protect the ball and shoot with his right foot.

4) He scores with an accurate shot into the corner.

- The initial marking on Saha is slack due to the poor positioning of both the full-back and the central defender.
- The central defender "dives" in to try and win the ball of Malbranque when he may have kept his position to delay the attack and let the opposing midfielder move forward a little to either eventually play the offside trap or allow Scholes to track back and help out his defence.
- Malbranque shows excellent vision and technique to play the decisive pass after winning the ball.
- Saha shows excellent technique and a cool head to run at goal and finish well.
